Lying on the river Walkham, the ancient Devon village of Horrabridge skirts the Western fringes of the Dartmoor National Park. There is only a small range of essential shops in the village including a general store and a Post-Office, but a good and regular bus service to the city of Plymouth and the town of Tavistock serves the community. The public footpaths leading from Horrabridge to Dartmoor make it an excellent base from which to explore the area, whether as a day tripper or for a longer stay in some of the excellent local accommodation. A thriving little community, Horrabridge has many different and varied organisations providing activities for all ages and interests. Set amid former mining country, now a picture of old world charm, views from the village show idyllic rural scenes of green fields, rolling hills and grazing sheep. And for those who want to escape to more lively parts for a while, the bustling city of Plymouth is only a 20 minute drive away. Back to the peace and tranquillity of Horrabridge, the river Walkham is famous for excellent salmon and trout fishing and the Medieval bridge is believed to be one of the oldest in Devon.
