Maidencombe is a pretty Devonshire coastal village skirted by woodland and open countryside. The sandy beach is cloaked by dramatic red sandstone cliffs, and there are thatched cottages and winding lanes to enjoy, or perhaps the spectacular scenery that film directors can only dream of may be shared as the South West Coastal Path is nearby. If shopping is desired a few miles will find Torquay where palm trees line the promenade, and glossy yachts are mirrored on the water. Maybe the thought of striking palatial styling ,and magnificent grand staircase will tempt a visit to Oldway Mansion, or the impressive Medieval Bradley Manor House may beckon, set in glorious woodland where the River Lemon meanders on it’s journey, complete fine furniture and stunning paintings, what more could be wished for. The answer possibly is Compton Castle that could take centre stage in any fairytale, a tour around this Medieval wonder will uncover the Great Hall, and Medieval Kitchens. Younger visitors are not forgotten with Paignton Zoo, or there is always Babbacombe Model Village which has impressive models including a circus and miniature railway. If an unforgettable experience is wished for, kent’s Cavern will grant it many times over, where a guided tour through an ethereal subterranean wonderland unveils prehistoric treasures.
