Mid Devon, Devonshire's Heartland, is bordered by Exmoor to the north, the Blackdown Hills to the east, Exeter to the south and Dartmoor to the west. The Exe, Creedy and Culm rivers wind their way through water meadows and native woodland of Mid Devon on their way to the sea. Within the lush wooded valleys a wide diversity of wildlife thrives. Deer, fox and badger are common, whilst the elusive otter is an occasional and much-treasured sight. Heron and kingfisher feed along the rivers and buzzards hunt across rough pasture and the higher moorlands.

The rolling hills of Mid Devon contain a mosaic of small fields, cob-and -thatch farm buildings and scattered villages and hamlets. This landscape can be easily accessed on foot by using the dense and well-maintained network of footpaths and bridleways. For those wishing to venture further afield the quiet country lanes are ideal for cycling. Most Mid Devon villages are clustered around the twin centres of traditional rural life; the church and the pub. The visitor can revive flagging spirits in one or both establishments.

At the centre of Mid Devon lies the market town of Tiverton, which boasts a castle, historic almshouses and an award-winning museum. An ideal way to relax whilst spending time in Tiverton is to take a trip in a horse-drawn barge along the Great Western canal. Two other towns of note within the area are Crediton, birthplace of Saint Boniface and Bampton, frequent winner of the the Britain-in-bloom competition. But wherever you visit in Mid Devon you will be assured of a welcome from the heart.
