Two Bridges is a small village in the heart of Dartmoor National Park beside the West Dart River in Devon. The breath stealing countryside invites walkers to explore the diverse landscape, from Dartmeet where two rivers meet in an enchanted wooded valley, Tavy Cleave River Valley, to the ancient Wistman’s woods, rocky outcrops, and rich Moorland. The area has an interesting history from Bronze Age settlements, tin miners, to today’s visitors who fall under a bewitching spell. The delights on offer will rewind time with a visit to Merrivale Prehistoric Settlement, the ancient village of Grimspound, or maybe Grey Wethers won’t fail to impress with it’s two stone circles. A short trip to Princetown will unlock the intriguing past of Dartmoor Prison whose austere and foreboding granite façade incarcerates prisoners, step inside the Museum for an evocative tale waiting to be shared. The absorbing exhibits include items from prisoners of the Napoleonic War, uniforms and secret treasures from the Black Museum which sends shivers down spines. For something different the High Moorland Visitor Centre will explain the mysteries of this magical location, or perhaps the thunderous sound of Lydford Gorge Waterfall will entice a trip to this magnificent ravine which showcases Mother Nature at her best.
