Lying to the south west of Rugby and just off the M45 the village of Thurlaston overlooks the Draycote Water Reservoir – created in the 1960’s this reservoir and country park is a firm favourite with walkers, windsurfers, boaters and bird watchers. A village that historically relied on agriculture one of the main features of the village is its windmill, now a private house, dating back to 1794 it was a working windmill until 1924 and converted into a house in the 1970’s. To give some idea of how busy this village once was it did at one time have four public houses as well as a blacksmiths and miller. The church of St Edmunds, dating back to the mid 1800’s was used as a school until 1905 and Sunday worship, it became licensed for public worship in that year and furnished as a church some 20 years later. Today it seems very much that the village and countryside are at one, the countryside trying to reclaim the village, the only way by road into the village is from the Coventry Road – just the one signposted turn off taking you to the heart of the village.
