The village of Witherley is in Warwickshire close to its border with Leicesteshire and near to the market towns of Atherstone and Market Bosworth. This village is a truly sought after location as it occupies a unique position close to the motorway network, in particular the M1 and the M40 and M42 and is bounded by the River Anker. The Church of St Peter is a Grade I listed building next to the river and with its tall spire it dominates the immediate area creating a picturesque scene. The church dates back to the early 14th century but other listed buildings in the area include, a cottage from the 17th century whilst there is a farmhouse and a coaching inn dating from the 18th century. Today the town of Witherley has earned itself a reputation for its annual Scarecrow Festival that is usually held in August, it is a three day event that sees residents placing scarecrows in any open space and an event that attracts thousands of visitors for its duration. This small village in the heart of the Warwickshire countryside is steeped in history and with such picturesque surroundings it is easy to appreciate its popularity with its residents who are justifiably proud of their village.
