The turn of the century also saw a new social conscience rising and the town park opened as did new schools including the County School on Clarendon Road better known today as the Hyde Clarendon Sixth Form College. Hyde was quick to adapt to the economic changes that were happening, in particular the onset of the decline of the cotton industry, and in response Hyde started to attract more diverse industries including leather, rubber, engineering, glove works, chemicals and ice cream in order to secure its future. Today Hyde is an affluent town and this makes it the type of location that is popular with a wide range of people for a variety
