Horningsea is a pretty village that rests on the eastern bank of the River Cam in Cambridgeshire, dating back to Viking times. There is much to occupy the most discerning visitor, whether you start your journey at Anglesey Abbey an imposing Jacobean style country house complete with many treasures, including a rare collection of art work and impressive collection of clocks. Outside there is even a working Water Mill. Or there is Wandlebury Country Park set in 110 acres of attractive woodland and parkland, complete with Nature Trail and an Iron Age Fort. If you back the winner or not, a trip to the famous Newmarket Race Course is a pleasure, where racing started over 300 years ago. Be prepared to be amazed at the stunning architecture that dominates the skyline in Ely, the magnificent Cathedral started life as a monastery in AD673, once inside through the heavy doors and the space and majesty envelopes all who enter, step into The Octagon and look up and around, and the feeling of being inside a kaleidoscope is overwhelming. The Stain Glass Museum has over 1240 gem coloured examples, and Oliver Cromwell’s house is nearby, the half timbered building has many fine exhibits to share.
