The name “Ellesborough” is of Anglo-Saxon origin and is a small Buckinghamshire village at the foot of the Chiltern Hills, a few miles from Wendover and Aylesbury. There is little here in this picturesque setting except the parish church of St Peter and St Paul but it is the location of the Prime Ministers country residence, Chequers – an Elizabethan mansion housing one of the largest collections of art and memorabilia related to Oliver Cromwell in the country. This collection and the other national antiques here are not open to the public unfortunately.
