Located just five miles from Birmingham City Centre is the famous Castle Bromwich Hall, a Jacobean delight set in its original gardens the hall was originally built around 1599 and developed by its various owners over the years to the majestic property that is here today. Overlooking the valley of the River Tame it is believed that this area was settled as far back as the Neolithic Age and there has also been found evidence of Roman occupation. Then followed the Anglo Saxons and it was around this time that Castle Bromwich became the recognised name of this location, attributable to a wooden castle that was erected on Castle Hill and one of the ruling earls taking the name de Bromwich. Castle Bromwich, despite its proximity to Birmingham, managed to retain its rural charm, during the 18th century wealthy businessmen from Birmingham constructed their main residences here and today Castle Bromwich still retains its village greens. This is not to say that there was a lack of industry here, the Castle Bromwich Aerodrome saw the first aeroplane land here in 1909 and opposite the aerodrome was the Castle Bromwich Aircraft factory built in 1936 and today is home to the manufacture of car bodies for Jaguar cars. Castel Bromwich today retains its village character with good local amenities and two main shopping areas but its main attraction is the magnificent Castle Bromwich Hall.
