Just to the south east of Birmingham lies the village of Marston Green, originally a small village set amidst agricultural land the village grew in importance in the 1930’s because of its proximity to Birmingham. Today the village boasts a railway station, opened in 1838, that helps commuters to Birmingham and Coventry on a daily basis and yet the village retains its rural air. It is a popular location for visitors due to its close proximity to the NEC and Birmingham International Airport, it would seem that this location, is the perfect. Marston Green is also known for its association with Birmingham Cottage Homes, they were built by the Birmingham Board of Guardians in1880, fourteen in total, as well as a school and infirmary each of the houses was home to around 30 children at any one time who came from the Birmingham Workhouse. Today the village of Marston Green enjoys a range of local shops and good local amenities and it is easily understandable why this convenient location is so popular.
