Whitacre Heath is a small village in the Midlands in North Warwickshire that is given over to mainly agricultural activities. Many of its visitors are attracted to Whitacre Heath because part of the countryside, also known as Whitacre Heath, is owned by the Warwickshire Wildlife Trust. This is in fact an old gravel working adjacent to the River Tame that has developed into a mix of grassland, wetland and woodland – an ideal haven for a wide variety of birds, so much so that the park is a designated SSSI (Site of Special Scientific Interest). Lying to the North of Birmingham access to the M42 and the M6 is relatively easy making this an ideal location for the commuter who appreciates the beauty of the surrounding countryside. Whitacre Heath has long enjoyed an association with two adjacent villages, Nether Whitacre and Over Whitacre that are collectively known as “The Whiacres”. There are a number of old buildings in the area and these can be traced back to the Saxon period although archaeological finds includes artefacts from the Neolithic period.
