Yattendon is an unspoilt, pretty village in the county of Berkshire home to 331 people. The country lanes are an ideal place to stretch the legs on long walks, or just a mile or so away is a Living Rainforest with stunning tropical plants, butterflies, lizards and exotic creatures like the Red Tailed Boa Constrictor, Salmon Pink Spider and enchanting Emerald Doves, all of these wonders are housed under glass, as you walk around the colours of Mother Natures Palette paints a perfect picture. For the lovers of history the mellow façade of the magnificent Mansion of Basildon Park built in the 18th Century will certainly impress, once inside the beautiful staircase leads her visitor to scintillating treasures of paintings and fine furniture, outside the parkland overlooks the River Thames. Or perhaps a tour around the Thames Valley Police Museum will explain the intricacies of policing during the Victorian era, with exhibits of uniforms, truncheons and even items from the Great Train Robbery. Or why not catch a curtain call at the Water Mill Theatre, built in 1830 now converted into an intimate theatre retaining much of it’s heritage including the water wheel, with lovely gardens set beside the River Lambourne what more could possibly be asked for……….
