Clapham is a village that sits on the north bank of the River Great Ouse in Bedfordshire, and reaches back into history to before the Norman Conquest, although the population has risen to 3,930 since then. The village is perhaps famous for it’s links with Glen Miller, as Twinwood Airfield is where he boarded that fateful flight back in the 40’s. The Control Tower is now a Museum, if you time your visit right the Glen Miller Festival will be on, and the sounds of Swing, and Jazz echo hauntingly around the Airfield. Dances are held in the Aircraft Hangers, and if that’s not enough there are Classic and Military Displays, WW11 Re-enactments, and even a 1940’s style Fashion Show. Be prepared to be bewitched by the beauty of Bromham Mill and Gallery, this 17th Century Watermill set in 7 acres of charming waterside meadows on the banks of the River Great Ouse, where artists try to capture the magic, inside flour milling still takes place today, with two Art Galleries where modern masterpieces, glass and textiles are on show and the 26 arch Bromham Bridge is near. Or there is always Harold-Odell Country Park with two lakes and 144 acres to enjoy.
