Sandy is a small Market Town in Bedfordshire, on the winding River Ivel, and once the home of a Roman Settlement, many of their artefacts and treasures are on show at the Town Council Offices. With ‘The Sandy Hills’, woodland, parkland and heathland close by makes this a pretty place to visit. The ’Greensand Ridge Walk’ runs through the town covering 40 miles of delightful scenery and interesting wildlife. The impressive 14th Century church of St Swithun’s has a Saxon Font, or perhaps a visit to the headquarters of the RSPB, based in Sandy Warren 100 acres of woodlands and beautiful gardens, why not follow one of the Nature Trails and try to spot one of the many varieties of birds and wildlife. Just a couple of miles away is the ‘Shuttleworth ‘ collection, an impressive gathering of early aircraft that date back to World War One, with Spitfire’s and Hurricanes from the 40’s, and Hummingbirds and Moths from the 20’s, there are regular flying displays, with the extensive collection of classic and vintage cars and motorcycles, not to mention the horse drawn carriages, set within 10 acres of ’Swiss Garden’ will fulfil dreams and thoughts of a bygone era.
