Though on a bus route, there is no railway service to the village of Chiddingfold, but fortunately it is easy to find as the A283 between Godalming and Petworth goes through the middle of Chiddingfold‚s huge triangular green. Lined almost entirely with listed fine timber framed houses, this is a great place to stop at dawn or dusk to watch the many badgers, foxes and deer from the surrounding woodland and gardens. Whilst here, take the time to seek out an ancient thorn tree near the grade II listed Crown Inn and the medieval blacksmiths. For three hundred years Chiddingfold was famed for its glass making and the green was filled with glass making sites, but since the 17th century it has been common land for use of the entire village, now mainly a farming and pony club community. The village holds a festival in June and a massive bonfire party is held on the green every November. A local example of Chiddingfold stained glass can be seen in a window of stone built St Mary‚s church, near the green‚s pretty pond. Round the corner from the church is Chiddingfold Rock Club, infamous for live music from many well known bands, past and present.
