Sanderstead is a village on the beautiful North Surrey Downs yet only three miles from Croydon. The church of All Saints dates back to the 9th Century and a wander around the inside will uncover some interesting features, or why not blow away the cobwebs with a stroll on Sanderstead Hill, on a clear day the views of the Millennium Wheel are worthwhile. Or perhaps the thought of Bronze Age Burrows will be one temptation too many when you visit Croham Hurst. If the prospect of enjoying 17th Century splendour with fine old ’Masters’ paintings, furniture, and magnificent tapestries is for you then Squerrey’s Court is a must. The beautiful mellow red brick Manor House is set overlooking a Lake with manicured grounds. Or there is always the Roman splendour on offer at Crofton Roman Villa, where the fascinating story is told through many exhibits and finds. Or maybe Chartwell is more for you as it was the home of Winston Churchill, and a tour around many of the rooms that remain just as they were gives an insight to his life. Or for the curious Chislehurt Caves will lead you on an underground adventure never forgotten through passageways that were used by Druids, Saxons, and Romans, the gentle light of the lantern tour shows the church, Druid Alter, and even a haunted Pool ………….
