Sunbury-on-Thames is an ancient town set on the northern banks of the River Thames in the northeast corner of Surrey, and is home to just over twenty seven thousand people. It has an interesting history from the Bronze Age settlers who first came here, Rope Makers in the 17th Century who worked in Rope Walk which can be seen today, Huguenot Weavers who arrived in exile, and the 19th Century Anglers who enjoyed fishing here. The town comprises of two parts, with Sunbury Village positioned at the southern end of the town which clings to its leafy village feel, whilst Sunbury Common, is where many businesses are concentrated. Visitors are spoilt for choice with a rich mix of architecture lining the roads, together with the 18th Century church dedicated to St Mary which stands overlooking the river. Walkers can enjoy a stroll along the Thames Path and watch the boats go by, there's a huge choice of interesting shops, and restaurants to cater for most tastes; together with pubs, bars and cafes to try, and, as it's positioned close to the historical town of Hampton and is just sixteen miles or so from the heart of London its perfectly placed.
