Cawdor is a small historic village in Invernesshire in the Highlands of Scotland, situated 5 miles south of the Nairn and 12 miles east of Inverness. Cawdor grew as an estate village serving Cawdor Castle, home of the Thanes of Cawdor, popularised by Shakespeare. The village sits to the west of the castle across the valley of the Allt Dearg flowing north into the River Nairn. Cawdor Castle is a popular visitor attraction the Castle is a medieval fortress with central tower built in1454. There are three gardens; the Walled Garden, the Flower Garden and the Wild Garden and there is a 9-hole golf course. The Royal Brackla Distillery was built in 1812 on the estate of Cawdor Castle and is operated by Dewars for Bacardi. Cawdor has a village store and post office; there is a tavern and the Cawdor Parish Church and there are interesting walks and wildlife around Cawdor. The area offers self-catering accommodation and hotels. Brodie Castle is nearby built in 1645 standing to the east of Cawdor near Forres, a few miles from the Castle is Brodie Country Fare a shopping experience with fashion, gifts, home-ware and restaurant. Cawdor is located close to Nairn with salmon fishing in River Findhorn and their 18-hole championship golf course.
