Glendale is a small village near Dunvegan on the Duirinish peninsula in the northern part of the Isle of Skye in the Highlands of Scotland situated along the valley of River Hamara where it flows into Loch Pooltiel. Glendale is an ancient settlement set amongst dramatic mountain terrain and spectacular scenery. Skye is rich in heritage and culture with ancient monuments, castles and archaeological finds dating back to the Mesolithic period. Glendale is a popular tourist resort; access to the village is via a single-track road past the Niest Point Lighthouse. The village has a shop and local amenities and a guesthouse, there are restaurants, hotels and holiday accommodation in the area. Glendale has a Toy Museum with an excellent collection of toys divided into different eras. Other attractions nearby include Dunvegan Castle dating from the 13th century, the Colbost Croft Museum and Borreraig Park Folk Museum. The Isle of Skye Brewery has tours and a shop and Talisker Whiskey Distillery produces single-malt whiskey and is located beside Loch Harport on the west coast. There are two golf courses, river, loch and sea fishing, horse-riding, pony-trekking, and a variety of walks. There is an abundance of wildlife ideal for nature-watchers with golden eagles, deer, otters, basking sharks, dolphins, whales and seals.
