Nethy Bridge is a small secluded village lying on the River Nethy in the Badenoch and Strathspey area in the Highlands of Scotland, situated 5 miles south-west of Grantown-on-spey. Nethy Bridge developed in the 18th century on the edge of the Abernethy Forest, forestry was the main industry and the village had several sawmills. Abernethy Forest is an ancient Caledonan Pine forest, now owned by the RSBP. The railway arrived in 1865 and this quiet location became a tourist resort and has been popular since Victorian times and is well equipped with self-catering accommodation, B&B’s, hotels and restaurants. The village focuses around the Dulnain Bridge, an arched Victorian bridge built in 1820. This is also the location of the shops and amenities including, the Spar-store and post office, Nethy Bridge Pottery and Showroom and Speyside Heather and Garden Centre. Activities include an out-door centre and 9-hole golf course, cycling and tennis courts, nature-watching and the RSPB bird reserve offering guided walks. There are river-side walks and way-marked woodland trails and part of the Speyside Way goes from Nethy Bridge to Grantown before heading to Aviemore. The River Spey is famous for salmon fishing and the snow-capped Cairngorm Mountains offer excellent skiing. Nethy Bridge hosts Highland games each August.
