Coldingham is an ancient Borders village positioned in Berwickshire, on the South East edge of Scotland, home to nearly six hundred people. History dictates that Coldingham played host to an Abbey where Queen Etheldreda became a Nun, although a fire destroyed this religious site, it was re-built, only to be razed to the ground once more by marauding Danes. The eleventh century saw the re-building of the Abbey where peace remained until Oliver Cromwell descended and bruised the building once again. Today's visitors can see the church where the ruins stood the test of time and only hints of the troubled times endured. From a tiny fishing village it grew and expanded over the years to a charming destination, there are Scottish style cottages, and houses which line the roads, there are a few local shops, welcoming pubs and a restaurant. For those who wish to linger there's a choice of comfortable B&B's, a hotel, and a selection of caravan parks to try. Beautiful Coldingham Bay where the village fishermen once launched their boats is nearby. Today sees surfers riding the waves, and the curious searching the rock pools, it has a sandy beach, fabulous views, and a line of colourful beach huts to delight any artist.
