St Boswells is a small historic village in the Borders region of Scotland situated 3 miles south-east of Melrose and 7 miles north-west of Jedburgh. The village was originally known as Lessudden but renamed in dedication to an abbot from Melrose Abbey c1500. St. Boswells is said to have the largest village green in Scotland, which has been the venue for an annual village fair each July since 1743. St Bowells is surrounded by beautiful country scenery ideal for walking, cycling, sight-seeing and fishing in the Rover Tweed. The village is a popular tourist destination and has various shops, a hotel, self-catering accommodation and a selection of places to eat. Attractions include Mertoun House which has 26 acres of gardens which have existed for over 350 years with an ancient doocot, trees, shrubs and bulbs. The ruins of Dryburgh Abbey sit on the banks of the River Tweed half a mile across from the village. The Border Abbey Tours are organised driving tours designed to visit the many Abbeys in the area including the Smailholm Tower sitting on a rocky outcrop, the remains of Jedburgh Abbey, Kelso Abbey and many more. Kelso lies to the west of St Boswells and is the location of the famous Kelso Race-course and Floors Castle it also has a swimming pool and an ice rink
