Lock Eck is a picturesque Lock which stretches for seven miles and is positioned in the Trossachs National Park in Argyllshire in Scotland. It nestles against a stunning backdrop of dramatic mountain scenery as it gently winds through the centre of the Cowal Peninsula, just nine miles or so from the closest village of Dunoon. It has a fascinating history that reaches far back in time, on the western shore it has remained uninhabited since the Iron Age Settlers who lived there many centuries ago. On the eastern shore however, stands an impressive 17th Century Coaching Inn which still offers a warm welcome and a dram to today's visitors, and travellers, nearby there is a choice of attractive cottages, B&B's and even a caravan park to enjoy for those who wish to stay longer. Walkers and artists are drawn here with fabulous breathtaking scenery of mountains, hills and ancient wooded forests, where there is a network of footpaths that uncover pleasing wildlife and memorable views. The proud Scottish Clan of Campbell's once hid important paperwork in the Caves on the shores of the Loch during the rebellion that was fought in 1685, the caves are still known as the Paper Caves.
