Tobermory is the main town and port on the Isle of Mull in the Inner Hebrides lying off the coast of Argyll in Scotland, situated near the northern entrance to the Sound of Mull. Tobermory is famous as the location of the popular children’s TV show Balamory which features the distinctive brightly coloured buildings decorating the town from the Main Street down to the pier. The picturesque town was built during the 18th century as a fishing port making use of its natural harbour. Tobermory has one of the three ferry ports on the island bringing numerous tourists to this popular holiday resort; Tobermory has the majority of the main facilities on the island including a variety of holiday accommodation ranging from hotels to a campsite, there are shops, a co-op supermarket, restaurants, coffee shops, an Arts and Crafts Centre, museum and a pottery shop. Historically interesting features include the Tobermory Clock Tower and the busy harbour abundant with boats and yachts. Attractions include a children’s farm, the Tobermory Scotch whiskey distillery with guided tours, the Tobermory golf course, island walks, fishing and boat-trips to spot the local wildlife; including whales, seals, dolphins, otters, deer and many species of bird. The Mull Highland Games are held in Erray Park in Tobermory each July.
