Llandybie in Carmarthenshire is a large village, two miles north of Ammanford. Everywhere here is steeped in myths and legends. (The caves on the limestone crop are allegedly the resting place of a sleeping warrior - be careful you don’t wake him.) There is a C5th church and Oliver Cromwell is also reputed to have stayed in the locality. Llandybie is a station stop on the heart of Wales line with the award winning Red Lion Inn adjacent. Many visitors come here to enjoy the quiet charm of the towns and villages or to walk in the foothills of the Black Mountains. Llandybie has long been associated with the fortunes of the Duboisson family whose ancestral home Glynhir has now been converted to a luxurious hotel and self catering facilities. Visitors can also take one of the many courses on offer – including painting and photography. Those who prefer outdoor pursuits could enjoy: horse riding at the many local centres; fishing or golf. (There’s an award winning course here). Llandybie is also ideally situated for visiting the National Botanic Gardens of Wales, Aberglasney Gardens and, for children, many theme parks, spooky caves and goldmines all within easy driving distance.
