St Clears is a small historically interesting town in the middle of an agricultural district in Carmarthenshire. It boasts an ornate bridge over the river Taf and, like many places in Wales, has the ruins of a motte and bailey Norman castle to explore. In the C12th a small settlement formed around the castle– now St Clears has a population of about 3000 including the, mostly Welsh speaking, residents of nearby villages Pwll Trap, Backe and Banc – y- Felin. St Clears prides itself on strong community feeling and generous hospitality. There is a wide choice of accommodation ranging from the local Travelodge to The Old Board School Guesthouse, which provides a comfortable stay in an interesting building. The local parish church (formerly the place of worship for a small Cistercian priory) has an impressive Romanesque arch. You can visit the local craft centres and you are never too far from a decent beach - both the Pembrokeshire Coast and the Gower Peninsula are less than an hours drive away. Oakwood Leisure Park and the National Botanical Gardens of Wales are also within easy distance. For discerning carnivores, visit Eynons Butchers, motto “Where meat is an
