Carrutherstown is a small village in Annandale in Dumfries and Galloway in Southern Scotland situated eight miles south-east of Dumfries and seven miles from Annan. The village is surrounded by picturesque countryside, wildlife and the unspoilt sandy beaches of the Solway coast. Carrutherstown has a Garden Nursery, shops and amenities, a hotel, B&B, self-catering accommodation, campsites and is an ideal destination for visiting and for touring the attractions of Dumfries and Galloway. The Annan Museum has collections of areas local archaeology, art and artefacts dating back 3000 years. Annan also has a swimming-pool, cinema, bars and restaurants, its Georgian design three-span bridge was built in 1826 by Robert Stevenson and the elegant Town Hall was built in 1878. There are scenic walks in Lochmaben and the popular Annan Shore Walk along the Solway Firth, there are golf clubs at Lockerbie and Ecclefechan, Ecclefechan is also home to the writer Thomas Carlyle’s Birthplace Museum displaying exhibits of his life during the 19th century. Nearby Comlongon Castle is a 14th century medieval castle, used as a wedding venue it has displays of armour and weapons and is reported to be haunted by the ghost of a green lady. The River Annan is well-known for its salmon and sea-trout fishing, wildlife includes bats, otters, kingfishers and water voles.
