A delightful village on the island's north coast, Wootton Bridge is located in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, between Ryde and Newport. The village was created from two separate settlements that eventually merged into one: Wootton and Wootton Bridge, which is located to the east of the village at the scenic Wootton Creek and Millpond. The mill no longer exists, but the pond has become a conservation area housing bats, birds and wildfowl. Fringing the pond, Firestone Copse is a beautiful woodland with trails leading through a wide variety of broadleaf and coniferous trees. The waters of the creek are especially lively, filled with picturesque yachts, and visitors may like to relax with a cool drink and watch the activity from the garden at the 150-year-old Sloop Inn. Another charming local attraction is the Isle of Wight Steam Railway, which begins its five mile journey to Smallbrook Junction from Wootton Bridge. Just a short distance from the village, Butterfly World and Fountain World, complete with tropical gardens and koi carp ponds, offers a great day out for the family. Wootton Bridge is a perfect base for hiking and cycling. It's also convenient to Ryde's golden beaches and Newport's shopping facilities.
