Broughty Ferry is a suburb of the City of Dundee in Scotland; it is situated 4 mile east of central Dundee on the north bank of the Firth of Tay opposite Tayport in Fife. During the 19th century, Broughty Ferry, was a fishing and whaling village and ferry port, it has developed into a beautiful resort town with a picturesque seafront, white sandy beaches, an esplanade and harbour and has become a popular tourist destination, ideal for walkers, sight-seers and nature-watchers, there is a selection of hotels and holiday accommodation, shops and a good selection of pubs, cafes and restaurants, a children’s play area and rock garden. Attractions include the Forbes of Kingennie Country House and the15th century Broughty Castle, used as part of the coastal defence during the 19th century, it stands on the seashore at the mouth of the River Tay; the castles’ observation post offers panoramic views over the Tay with the chance to see the local porpoises, seals and birds, the castle currently houses a museum with gift shop and exhibits of local heritage and environment of the area. Nearby attractions include Camperdown Country Park and Wildlife Centre, Scott of the Antarctic’s ship ‘Discovery’ at Discovery Point, the Olympia Swim Centre, Sensation, Science Centre and excellent shopping in Dundee City Centre.
