Lying just to the north of the City of Manchester is the suburb known as Swinton, tracing its history back to the Middle Ages when its economic fortunes relied on pig farming, from where it gained the name “Swynton” and subsequently the spelling changed to the way we know it today. Today its location is one which makes this one of the more popular suburbs of Manchester, it offers easy access to the East Lancs Road, this was the first inter city road built in the early 20th century, linking Liverpool to Manchester. The M62 today runs close by and again this makes this an attractive location for the commuter – especially with the links to the M6 and Leeds now around 40 minutes away. Today Swinton is the administrative centre of Salford, it has a shopping precinct and the residents benefit from a wide range of local amenities and facilities accounting for the popularity of this location.
