Balmaha is a small picturesque village perfectly placed on the eastern shores of Loch Lomond, Stirling, in Scotland. It has a pretty sheltered harbour where Steamers once brought holidaymakers and tourists. Although the Steamers have gone fishing boats, and pleasure craft stop here and a ferry still departs from the Pier across the Loch where the ancient Island of Inchcailloch, the Island of Nuns is to be found. Its history has been linked to the village for centuries, a legacy of which can still be seen today with the 12th Century church ruins that remain. The numbers swell in Balmaha with tourists visiting the stunning location where the Lowlands and Highlands of Scotland meet. Walkers and hikers will always travel here with a chance to step out onto the Millennium Forest Trail and the West Highland Way, Scotland's oldest long distance pathway which journeys through unbeatable heather strewn countryside and forests of the Trossachs National Park. Within the village overlooked by Conic Hill today's visitors will uncover a mixture of shops selling gifts and anything from postcards to plasters, restaurants offering tasty fayre, a welcoming pub, and a pleasing choice of places to stay from cottages, comfortable B&B's and even a hotel under the shadow of a five hundred year old tree.
