The village of Failand lies in a rural area between the city of Bristol and the Bristol Channel. It is a small village with a 19th century church which was donated by Richard Vaughan to the parish in 1887. Unfortunately, he neglected to register it as a church and it did not actually become a recognised church until 1920! The church today houses an impressive tapestry depicting the Canterbury Tales. There are a number of attractions worth visiting in the area. Noah's Ark Zoo Farm has a great many exotic animals and offers a very child friendly experience, making it an ideal family outing. Nearby the lover of history and architecture can find Tyntesfield, a spectacular Victorian country house and grounds which is open to the public between May and November. There is also the annual North Somerset show at May Bank Holiday, featuring many attractions related to rural life, including tractor pulling, heavy horses and rural crafts. Failand is also home to the Failand and Portbury Cricket Club, a leading Bristol and North Somerset cricket club playing a very competitive standard of cricket. For a good meal to round of your visit, you can stop off at the Failand Inn.
