Hambrook is close to Bristol and the M4, yet still seems to retain much of its semi rural charm. It is located at the south western foot of Winterbourne Hill. The village has a distinctive village green which the local refer to as both 'Hambrook' and 'Whiteshill Common' given its proximity to the hamlet of Whiteshill. The Frome flows partly through Hambrook and the nearby hamlet of Moorend, a mostly wooded area where families can enjoy walking their dogs. At the time of the writing of the Domesday Book, Hambrook was a separate manor, but later joined with the manor at Winterbourne. Wood was the principal trade locally. There are several listed buildings in the area, including Hambrook Grove, an 18th century building (now a hotel) and Hambrook House, built in the 17th century and refaced in 1784. The original stage coach route to Gloucester passes through the village in the form of a lane known as the 'Old Gloucester Road'. For those looking for refreshment, The Hambrook, The White Horse and The Crown all lie along the Bristol Road. For the sporting there is a Golf Range at Hambrook. Cricket also attracts quite a crowd in the summer months at Hambrook.
