Hinton Charterhouse is a small village set in a beautiful location only five miles from Bath. The Priory was established in 1232 and played an important part in the history of the village. There is also the Norman Church of St John The Baptist which has an impressive tower. If visiting castles are a temptation then Farleigh Hungerford Castle was built in 1370, has a chequered past, the fabulous Medieval wall paintings in the chapel are a delight, or time it right and catch one of the Military re-enactments that take place. With the close proximity of the historical town of Bath a visit to the Abbey with it’s stunning Gothic architecture is breathtaking, it is on a site where three churches have stood over the past 12 and a half Centuries. Or how about the ’Fashion Museum’ with costumes from the 1600’s or corsets and stays, 400 hundred years of costumes are brought to life. Why not see the fine plasterwork at Westwood Manor with a topiary garden or the Botanical Gardens spread over nine acres, with a scented walk and Roman Temple. Or for outdoor pursuits Wellow Trekking Centre has ponies, horses, archery, clay pigeon shooting and quod biking.
