West Quantoxhead lies at the foot of the Quantock Hills in Somerset. The village is surrounded by beautiful countryside and the Quantock Hills have been designated as an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. West Quantoxhead is a small village, close to Williton and about half way along the A39 between Minehead and Bridgewater. It is also known as St Audries as it lies within the St Audries Manor Estate. The village church of St Audries is also known as St Ethelreda's. The present church was built in 1854 to replace the dilapidated medieval structure that had stood in its place. It was dedicated to St Ethelreda the virgin but is more commonly known as St Audries after St Audrey, Queen of Northumbria, who became the first Abbess of Ely. Walkers and students of English Literature will be keen to know that West Quantoxhead lies on the Coleridge way; a series of walks through the breathtaking countryside of the Quantock Hills and the surrounding area. The walks follow the paths taken by the famous poet. St Audries beach has an equal amount of sandy and rocky areas. The beach has a lovely cool waterfall, handy for washing off after swimming in the Severn.
