Welcome to Halton, comprising the Towns of Runcorn and Widnes and the Villages of Hale, Daresbury, Preston Brook and Moore. Halton sits astride the River Mersey, between Chester and Liverpool, with excellent links by Motorway, Intercity Rail and close to Liverpool Airport.
Daresbury was the home of Lewis Carroll (www.lewis-carroll-birthplace.org.uk ), lived here until he was 9 years old. His father was the curate of the local Church and also had a floating ministry on the Bridgewater Canal.
Award winning Museums and attractions are among some of the unexpected finds here in North Cheshire. We also have Award winning hotels and Nationally recognised parks and Countryside.
Catalyst, the Science Discovery Centre (www.catalyst.org.uk) has hundreds of hands on activities for young and old alike. Fun filled fascination, coupled with an excellent teaching facility, the Elements café and on site parking mean that Catalyst is an attraction for all the family in all weathers.
Norton Priory Museum and Walled Garden (www.nortonpriory.org ) tells the story of the Augustinian Priory and its life once the Monks and Abbots had moved on. Discover the intriguing displays in the atmospheric, prize winning Museum. Find out about the lives of the priory canons, and see examples of the work of medieval craftspeople. Explore the displays which recall the 400 years when Norton Priory was home to the Brooke family.
Perhaps a day or week on the water is more to your liking. Claymoore Navigation hire out holiday barges for daily or weekly cruises on the Bridgewater Canal onto the Trent & Mersey Canal and beyond.
If its fun filled free events, why not come along to the Halton Show on the 3rd weekend in July. Based at Spike Island in Widnes, it's the biggest free 2 day show in the Country. Halton is also home to the Northwest Vintage Fair Organ Rally, with over 300 vintage items on site including Traction Engines, Vintage vehicles, vintage fairground and many trade and craft stalls.
Why not give Halton a visit, for a day, weekend or perhaps longer.
