Bramhope is an attractive rural village surrounded by beautiful countryside and woodland in West Yorkshire, home to just over four thousand people. It has an interesting history which reaches back in time to the Saxons and beyond. From a small agricultural and scattered farming settlement it has grown to the leafy village seen today, and yet it is only nine miles or so from the busy centre of Leeds. There is a mixture of architecture with stone built cottages and houses dating back to the 17th, and 18th Century, the Old Schoolhouse, Smithy, Weavers Cottage, and a Puritan Chapel which was built in 1649 after the Restoration which still has its bell intact. Walkers and ramblers will always be tempted to visit here as it nudges the beautiful Yorkshire Dales National Park, with a network of footpaths close by which journey past ancient stone walls and woodland. There are a handful of shops scattered about, a Shopping Parade on Breary Lane and a Farmers Market which can be found in the Memorial Hall. A short walk around the village will discover the Old Village Well, a fabulous 17th Century Pub which continues to welcome travellers, and an impressive tunnel built for the railways in the 19th Century which runs for over two miles has castellated towers and a story to tell.
