Born 1944 - English conductor.
After studying at Cambridge he became the youngest-ever conductor of the Henry Wood Promenade Concerts in 1968. Other appointments include resident conductor at the Royal Opera House (1968-79), and principal conductor and music director of San Diego Symphony Orchestra (1980-87) and Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra (1989-2000).
