Born 1615. Died 1662 - English preacher, founder of English Unitarianism.


He studied at Oxford and in 1641 was elected Master of the Gloucester Free School. In 1645 he was put in prison for rejecting in his preaching the deity of the Holy Ghost, and was eventually banished to the Scilly Isles in 1655. On his release in 1658 he returned to preaching in London until after the Restoration. But arrested again in 1662 and unable to pay his fine, went back to prison where he remained for the rest of his life.
