Born 1911. Died 1993 - Northern Irish surgeon and nutritionist.
Educated at Dublin University. Worked in Uganda and found a childhood cancer caused by a virus, now known as Burkitt’s Lymphoma. Linked low incidence of coronary heart disease and bowel cancer to high amount of unrefined fibre in diet. Nicknamed the bran man. Elected FRS in 1976.
