Born 1922 - English footballer.

Regarded as one of the greatest wingers to play football. Played for Preston North End all his footballing life. Has a stand, a statue and the road running alongside the stadium dedicated to him. His England career lasted 12 years and he won 76 caps, scoring 30 goals. Awarded the OBE in 1961, the CBE in 1992 knighted in 1998.
