Began in film industry in 1963. His comedy That Sinking Feeling was well received at 1979 Edinburgh Film Festival. Early films included Gregory’s Girl (1980) and Local Hero (1983). Moved to Hollywood in 1980s. Other films include Housekeeping (1987) and Being Human (1994).
