Born 1930 - English theatre, opera and film director.


A British theatre director of the London Arts Theatre (1955-56), The International Playwrights Theatre (1957) and most notably the Royal Shakespeare Company with productions such as War of The Roses trilogy (1963) and Harold Pinter’s The Homecoming (1965). As director of Covent Garden Opera he produced The Magic Flute (1966), Tristan and Isolde (1971) and Midsummer Night’s Dream (1981). He was knighted in 1977.
