Born 1947 - English dramatist, director and filmmaker.


English dramatist, director and filmaker, he was resident dramatist and literary manager at the Royal Court Theatre, London (1969-71) and at Nottingham Playhouse (1973). He became associate director of the National Theatre London in 1984. Plays include Teeth‘n’Smiles (1975), Racing Demon (1990) and The Judas Kiss (1998). Films include Wetherby (1985). He was knighted in 1998.
