First work was The History of Holy War (1639). Appointed chaplain to the commander of the Royalists Ralph Hopton during the Civil War, later appointed chaplain-extraordinary to Charles II. Died before he completed his most famous work, History of the Worthies of Britain, it was published the year after his death.
