Born 1859. Died 1937 - Educationist and musicologist.
Studied at Worcester College, Oxford. Renowned lecturer in classics and music. Publications include Studies in Modern Music (1892,95), Sonata Form (1896) and The Viennese Period in the Oxford History of Music. Was a leading influence in English education at all levels in the 1920s and 1930s. Responsible for the report The Education of the Adolescent (1926) which led to the creation of secondary modern schools.
