Trained as an engineer before studying at the Royal College of Music. Won the Royal Philharmonic Society’s prize in 1951 for Clarinet Concerto. Moved to the USA in 1962. Has written many orchestral and chamber works as well as operas and choral works. Moved back to London in 1981.
