1806 - 1859. Engineer and Inventor.
Studied in Paris for two years, returned to work in father’s office. Helped plan the Thames Tunnel, planned the Clifton Suspension Bridge. Designed the Great Western (1838), the first steamship built to cross the Atlantic. Constructed all the tunnels, bridges and viaducts on the Great Western Railway. Constructed and improved many docks.
