Finnigan followed a conventional path into television, studying Drama and English Literature at university (Bristol), working as a researcher for Granada TV then as a reporter for Anglia TV. She and her husband Richard Madeley came to national attention with This Morning on ITV, and Richard and Judy on Channel 4; another similar format show on a digital channel did poorly. She has been involved in many other projects including penning a novel and appearing on the TV programme Loose Women.
